Sustainable Living - Green Climate Fund and UNIDO Agree to Promote Climate Friendly Industrial Development

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have signed a partnership agreement, the Accreditation Master Agreement (AMA), that paves the way for UNIDO to submit climate project proposals to the GCF for funding.
ZOU Ciyong, UNIDO Managing Director of the Directorate of Programme, Partnerships and Field Coordination, said, “The signing of the Accreditation Master Agreement concludes UNIDO's accreditation with the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The GCF is the world's largest fund dedicated to combating climate change by investing in low-emission and climate-resilient development. This partnership will propel new opportunities for UNIDO to expand its delivery towards inclusive and sustainable industrial development."
UNIDO became a GCF Accredited Entity at the 26th Meeting of the GCF Board in August 2020. The GCF is an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and serves the 2015 Paris Agreement, supporting the goal of keeping the average global temperature rise well below two degrees Celsius.
Javier Manzanares, GCF Deputy Executive Director, said, “I welcome the formalization of GCF’s partnership with UNIDO with excitement. This partnership enables us to utilize UNIDO’s technical expertise in industrial development which will bring opportunities for innovative climate solutions in developing countries. We need to accelerate industry’s shift to low-emission, climate-resilient development.”
