Li-On Batteries for Sustainable Industries

 Dr Archana Verma

Ipower Batteries is a Make in India company that manufactures Li-On batteries for many new age products including E-Vehicles, solar panels, electric and medical equipments etc. Vikas Aggarwal, Founder & MD, Ipower Batteries talks to us in this interaction about his work

What are the smart techs you’re using in your batteries?

Our batteries have smart features like advanced tracking, geo-fencing and battery immobilisation, remote monitoring & control features. We have successfully been able to create an intelligent swappable battery with heat dissipation modular battery. This modular battery which can be used for both 2 wheeler and 3 wheeler by using in paralleling. A product which is suitable for Indian energy requirement and ideal for battery swapping and last mile delivery companies.

“Make in India” is one of our core principles, as a result of which, except cells, all other parts are indigenised. Ipower has worked closely with various raw material supplier with their R&D and partnered to create a state-of-the-art Battery Management System which gives it an edge to manufacture high grade energy storage solutions in India.

How are the different segments of your customers doing after the lockdown? Give a segment-wise account – such as for solar units, E-Vehicles, electric and medical equipments etc.

With a surge in demand for EV based Lithium-Ion batteries even after lockdown, mainly for two- wheelers and three-wheelers, we have upgraded its manufacturing to 200 battery packs per day to meet the growing demand. The company has seen the growth in manufacturing for its batteries at 20% for two-wheelers and 25% for three-wheelers, which they aim to fulfill by expanding their production capabilities with time. The growth on requirement of two-wheelers hasn’t been affected as much as the demand for three-wheelers in the past year. Since majority of the demand comes from EV segment, the other sectoral demand that we fulfill is relatively small but gradually picking up. We are hopeful Post-Corona, it will see a decent growth.

Do you manufacture your batteries yourself or do you import some parts of these batteries?

We manufacture high grade Lithium- Ion batteries for EV in our in-house government certified (ISO 9001-2015,14001:2015,45001:2018) manufacturing unit in Kundli, Haryana. Currently our capacity is manufacturing 200 battery packs per day per shift which is soon going to scale upto 500 battery packs per day in the coming future.

Yes we import mainly Lithium-Ion cells from countries like Chile, Japan and China.

How do you finance your R&D Unit?

The R&D unit is self-financed by the company itself.

What is your business collaboration with Computech Systems? Explain in some detail

Computech Systems, which was the parent company and front runner, formed the base for Ipower to take off, which started out with trading in batteries. Ipower Batteries was incorporated in Dec 2019 with the intent of manufacturing Lithium-Ion Batteries for Automotive and allied applications. The company has a backing of almost three decades worth of experience in clean energy storage provider and 10 years in electric mobility.

The company was founded by Vikas Aggarwal and Chhavi Aggarwal as Founding Directors. The mission of the company is to establish Ipower as a pioneer in the evolving energy solution space in India by developing an ecosystem of delighted customers, committed partners and pay back to the community with our exceptional product quality and delightful service.

What is the green element in your batteries?

Our batteries are made of up Lithium Ion material which itself is well researched and proven to be green energy material.
